Kateřina Konvalinová’s diploma is the audio-visual work Corrective Relations: PARTY – a short movie influenced by the genres of the reality show and stand-up comedy. She follows here in her earlier videos from the series Corrective Relations (The First Session, Bad Trip). These explore the so-called small revolutions in life (such as falling in love and experimenting with hallucinogens), along with the physical and mental symptoms of the time (pain, anxiety, fatigue, depression) and psychological and therapeutic tools, viewed as interstices disturbing status quo. This most recent work draws attention to the limits of psychological treatment, which is, in the artist’s view, based on individual self-development and the cultivation of personal needs. She contrasts them with the dance (rave) culture, conceived as a collective experience of solidarity and resistance, where an important role is played by dance as the means of retrieving physical vitality and joy of life.
