Andrea Sobotková related the diploma to her earlier site-specific installation for the Pardubice art festival in public space, “Malleable Memory”, which she also presents at the exhibition. A former military exercising ground, today gradually devoured by Nature, still reveals many remains of technical constructions and railway infrastructure. Sobotková highlighted their original function via a temporary installation arching over bridge pillars. Having discovered residua of a manipulation device, sunk into a concrete base, nearby one – which is two fragments plucked out of the ground –, the artist transferred the objects into the exhibition space. She views these artifacts, resembling geological samples – equally musty, coarse and in the state of progressing decay – as authentic imprints of the place’s memory, and treats them as if they were a living matter moving in space.
