Annotation

David Pinkava works with a disorganized, organically evolving library of templates. In the speculative use of symbols, logos, and utilitarian motifs that we encounter in late capitalism, he plays with the variability of their impersonal nature and symbolic meaning. Pinkava works mainly in the media of drawing and painting.

The starting point for Pinkava’s graduation work was a reflection on his nighttime journeys home during his six years at the Academy of Fine Arts. The essence and nature of this journey through the city to his own bed, in particular its banal and unremarkable character and repetitiveness, coalesced in his mind and memory into a cyclical story. He then translated his study of and reflection on this personal space into atypical nocturnal still-lifes.
