- Main topic
- A CHANGE IN SETTING AS AN ARTISTIC MEANS
- Annotation
Lukáš Cinkanič recreates and relives the intensity of long journeys by freight train and the culture of train-hopping, experiences that have had a formative influence on his work. Through painting, he both relives and passes on his memories. He creates portals via which he presents his subjective experiences from these travels. The journey becomes a creative environment which he records in large-scale murals on the walls of abandoned houses in industrial neighborhoods. The act of wandering the landscape (and the specific characteristics of this activity) is confronted with other places where Cinkanič makes his art. Different creative environments allow for different working processes. They vary in terms of available equipment and time, factors that then produce different results. The experience he gains spontaneously encourages the use of different means of painting, but all these positions exist in relation to one another and, together, form a whole. Cinkanič’s work is thus a synthesis of inner experiences that subsequently lead to the adoption of new creative processes.
